Ceremony Elektrifikasi and Green Mining Realization

PT Borneo Indobara (BIB) officially marked a new chapter in the national mining sector’s energy transformation through the Ceremonial Electrification and Green Mining Realization event held at its Kusan Office on Monday, February 9, 2026. This event marks a strategic milestone in the company’s journey towards energy efficiency, carbon emission reduction, and the implementation of integrated sustainable mining practices.

The inauguration coincided with PT BIB’s 20th anniversary and was attended by hundreds of invited guests from various regions in Indonesia, industry partners, and international representatives from China. Also attended by several strategic stakeholders, including Adi Priyanto, Director of Retail and Commerce at PLN; Ahmad Syauki, Chief Mining Inspector at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM); representatives from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG); and contractor partners and businesses supporting the mining industry.

The Event Chairman and Head of Mining Engineering at PT BIB, Riadi Simka Pinem, emphasized that the electrification of mining equipment is part of the company’s long-term transformation to support the national energy security and independence agenda.

“Since February 7-8, we have showcased more than 150 units of electric and hybrid mining equipment. Today marks the start of the massive implementation phase of electrification across all PT BIB operational lines,” he said.

PT BIB’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Raden Utoro, stated that this initiative is one of the largest mining equipment electrification programs in Indonesia to date. The company targets 25 percent of its fleet to be electric by 2026, increasing to 75 percent by 2028, and achieving its Net Zero Emission target by 2028-2029.

“This transformation is not just a technical step, but a corporate strategy to ensure business sustainability amidst global demands for low-carbon industries,” he emphasized.

To support this transition, PT BIB is strengthening its electricity infrastructure through a strategic collaboration with PLN. Currently, 40 MVA of electricity is utilized in the operational chain, and this is projected to increase to 200–240 MVA by 2028, as the electric fleet expands.

According to Mr. R. Utoro, reliable electricity supply is crucial. Supply disruptions can directly impact the operation of cable- and battery-based equipment, making continued synergy with PLN key to the success of this program.

PLN’s Director of Retail and Commerce, Adi Priyanto, believes that the transformation to electric vehicle (EV) mining trucks is not merely a symbol of the energy transition, but rather a rational, long-term business decision.

“The transformation to EV mining trucks is a concrete manifestation of the national energy transition. This is not just a symbol of change, but a rational, efficient, and visionary business decision,” he said.

PT BIB’s move aligns with the President of the Republic of Indonesia’s directive to reduce dependence on imported fuel, which is valued at hundreds of trillions of rupiah annually. Electrification is considered a strategic solution to reduce national fuel consumption while increasing the operational cost efficiency of the mining industry.

In addition to fleet electrification, PT BIB is also introducing supporting technological innovations, including drone-based weather modification in collaboration with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to control rainfall patterns in its operational areas. BMKG’s Director of Weather Modification Operations, Budi Harsono, stated that PT BIB has the potential to become the first coal mining company to implement systematic and integrated weather modification operations.

Another innovation is the implementation of Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) technology, which allows for precise truck weighing without stopping, thereby increasing time efficiency and productivity.

Support for this transformation also comes from its partners. PT Anugrah Energi Kalimantan, one of PT BIB’s contractors, revealed that approximately 20 percent of its fleet has switched to electric power, demonstrating significant long-term efficiency.

This initiative not only impacts technical and environmental aspects but also stimulates the local economy. Twenty-six MSMEs from 22 villages surrounding the mine were involved in providing meals for more than 2,000 guests during the series of events, underscoring the company’s commitment to empowering the surrounding community.

The inauguration of the electrification facility concluded with a performance by Indonesian stand-up comedian Abdur Arsyad, who created a warm and inclusive atmosphere to celebrate the energy transformation.

Through this electrification program, PT Borneo Indobara affirms its vision of Sustainable Green Mining – Illuminating the World, while strengthening its position as a pioneer of sustainable mining in Indonesia that is adaptive to global challenges and future energy transition demands.

Jakarta, December 17, 2025, PT Borneo Indobara (BIB), a subsidiary of PT Golden Energy Mines Tbk (GEMS), once again achieved success by winning three awards at the 2025 Indonesia CSR Awards & Indonesia Sustainable Development Awards (ICA–ISDA), a national appreciation forum for companies deemed successful in implementing CSR and sustainable development programs consistently and with real impact.
