PT Borneo Indobara (BIB), a subsidiary of PT Golden Energy Mines Tbk (GEMS), has officially inaugurated the WIM (Weigh-in-Motion) Digital Hub, an operational, innovation, and development center for digital weighing technology, marking an important milestone in the company’s technology transformation journey.

The inauguration was attended by Bonifasius, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PT Golden Energy Mines Tbk (GEMS); R. Utoro, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of PT Borneo Indobara (BIB); Dimas “Omdim” Sutejo, Chief Digital & Technology Officer (CDTO) of PT Golden Energy Mines Tbk (GEMS); as well as BIB management and other stakeholders.

The establishment of the WIM Digital Hub marks a significant milestone in BIB’s nearly two-decade-long journey in leveraging technology. The journey began in 2006 with the use of a conventional weighbridge and has continued to evolve in line with the company’s operational needs, leading to the implementation of Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) technology.

This development is part of BIB’s efforts to adopt technology that can support mining operations with increasingly large production volumes and transaction levels. WIM is expected to improve the efficiency and reliability of the weighing process while supporting digital data recording for operational needs.

The WIM system is supported by several digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics. These technologies are part of BIB’s efforts to improve data quality and support more integrated operations.

One of the key developments within BIB’s WIM ecosystem is WIM Set, which combines High Speed WIM and Low Speed WIM technologies in a multi-lane configuration. The approach represents the first implementation of its kind in Indonesia and was developed to support BIB’s operational requirements and high transaction volume.

BIB’s WIM ecosystem is designed to support production targets of up to 54 million tonnes per year and handle an average of approximately 3,700 transactions per day. At this scale, a reliable weighing system is an important part of maintaining smooth and consistent mining and logistics operations.

Beyond its operational function, the WIM Digital Hub also serves as a center for technology development and education. The facility operates 24 hours a day and is supported by infrastructure and server capabilities designed to maintain system continuity. It also features an educational area that presents the development of BIB’s weighing technology through a walk-through experience.

In his remarks, Bonifasius, CEO of GEMS, highlighted that “the WIM Digital Hub reflects the company’s commitment to continuing innovation that delivers value to operations and supports the company’s competitiveness in the future”.

Meanwhile, R. Utoro, COO of BIB, emphasized “the importance of cross-functional collaboration in developing technology that provides tangible benefits to operations”. This view is also reflected by Dimas “Omdim” Sutejo, CDTO of GEMS, who highlighted the role of technology and data in supporting the continued development of the company’s operations.

BIB’s journey from the use of a conventional weighbridge in 2006 to the implementation of WIM demonstrates the company’s continued development of weighing technology in response to its operational needs. With the inauguration of the WIM Digital Hub, BIB continues this journey by establishing a dedicated center that supports not only current operations, but also the future development and advancement of weighing technology.
